Gangtok, December 5: In a major boost to Sikkim’s administrative framework, two senior officers of the Sikkim Civil Service (SCS), Ms. Sarika Pradhan and Ms. Norzing Tsering Shenga, have been inducted into the prestigious Indian Administrative Service (IAS) against vacancies allocated under the Select List of 2024.
The induction marks a significant milestone in the professional careers of the two officers, both belonging to the 2002 batch of the Sikkim Civil Service. Their elevation to the IAS is seen as recognition of their years of dedicated public service, administrative experience, and contributions to governance in the state.
Currently, Ms. Sarika Pradhan serves as the Secretary of the Social Welfare Department, where she has played a key role in implementing welfare initiatives and social development programs. Ms. Norzing Tsering Shenga, who serves as Secretary of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, has been actively involved in ensuring efficient public distribution systems and food security measures across the state.
The appointments have been made under the provisions of Rule 8(1) of the IAS (Recruitment) Rules, 1954, read with Regulation 9(1) of the IAS (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955, and Rule 3 of the IAS (Probation) Rules, 1954. Following their induction, both officers have been appointed to the IAS on probation until further orders.
They have also been allotted to the Sikkim Cadre under Rule 5(1) of the IAS (Cadre) Rules, 1954, enabling them to continue serving the state while assuming wider responsibilities within the country’s premier administrative service.
The induction of the two officers underscores the importance of merit-based advancement within the civil services and reflects the state government’s commitment to strengthening governance through experienced and capable leadership. Their elevation is expected to further enhance administrative efficiency and contribute to Sikkim’s continued development and public service delivery.
