PUC Signs MoU to Introduce Korean Language Course Starting January 27

Aizawl, December 2, 2025: Pachhunga University College (PUC), one of Mizoram’s premier higher educational institutions, has taken another significant step toward internationalizing its academic offerings by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MGH Korea to introduce a Korean language course for students. The agreement was formally signed on Tuesday at the Principal’s Conference Hall in the presence of PUC Principal Prof. H. Lalthanzara and Kim Jungae, representative of MGH Korea.

The new programme is scheduled to commence on January 27, 2026, and is expected to provide students with an opportunity to acquire language skills that could open doors to higher education, employment, and cultural exchange opportunities in South Korea and beyond.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Prof. H. Lalthanzara emphasized the importance of preparing students for a rapidly globalizing world. Referring to the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, he said educational institutions must equip students with international exposure and cross-cultural competencies.

“NEP 2020 encourages institutions to prepare students for global environments. Introducing Korean language studies is an important step in that direction,” he said. He added that PUC remains committed to strengthening collaborations with international institutions and expressed optimism that the partnership with MGH Korea would lead to meaningful academic and cultural exchanges in the future.

Under the terms of the agreement, MGH Korea will provide qualified instructors to conduct the classes at PUC. The programme will initially be offered at the beginner level and will run for a period of three months. The course fee has been fixed at ₹10,000, making it more affordable for students. Prof. Lalthanzara noted that similar Korean language courses elsewhere often cost around ₹15,000, allowing PUC students to benefit from a subsidized fee structure.

College authorities said preparations are underway to finalize classroom arrangements, academic schedules, and admission procedures. Necessary infrastructure and logistical requirements have already been taken into consideration to ensure the smooth implementation of the programme.

MGH Korea is an organization authorized by the Korean government and is actively involved in promoting Korean language education in several countries, including Canada, India, and Myanmar. The organization is led by Dr. Sangjoon Lee, a professor of Industrial Engineering at Hanyang University, South Korea. Dr. Lee is also known for his extensive experience in quality control and industrial management, having worked with major global corporations such as Samsung and LG.

The introduction of Korean language studies comes shortly after PUC’s agreement with JACEEX LL Ltd., Guwahati, signed on October 28, 2025, to offer Japanese language education. With the addition of Korean, PUC is steadily expanding its portfolio of international language programmes and creating new opportunities for students to develop global competencies.

The initiative is expected to enhance students’ employability, strengthen cultural understanding, and support Mizoram’s growing engagement with East Asian countries. It also reflects PUC’s broader vision of providing quality education that meets international standards while preparing students for opportunities in an increasingly interconnected world.
