Aizawl, December 2, 2025: The Government of Mizoram has officially renamed “Raj Bhavan, Mizoram” to “Lok Bhavan, Mizoram”, following a communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, dated November 25, 2025.
The announcement was made through a formal notification issued by the Governor’s Secretariat, Mizoram, and shared publicly by the Governor of Mizoram’s office. The change comes into effect immediately.
According to the notification, the renaming was carried out as per the direction of the Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram, based on MHA’s communication (Memo No. 7/10/2025). The revised name will now serve as the official designation for the Governor’s residence and secretariat premises in the state.
The order states:
“Raj Bhavan, Mizoram shall henceforth be referred to only as ‘Lok Bhavan, Mizoram.’”
The move aligns with broader naming reforms seen across the country in recent years, aimed at adopting terminology rooted in Indian linguistic and cultural identity. The renaming also echoes similar changes made in several other states.
The notification was signed by Ajit Roy, Secretary to the Governor, and confirms that the directive is effective immediately.
Officials tagged in the public announcement include Rashtrapati Bhavan and Union Minister Gen. V.K. Singh, signalling coordination at the central level.
The updated title - Lok Bhavan - will now be used for all administrative, ceremonial, and official references concerning the Governor’s residence in Mizoram.
