Mangan, Dec 9: The Special General Meeting of the Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association (SABA) was held at Mangshila in Mangan District on December 8, 2025. Organized by the Mangan District Boxing Association (MDBA) under the leadership of President Mr. Palden N. Lachungpa and General Secretary Mr. Ganesh Kumar Subba, the meeting was conducted in close collaboration with SABA.
The event witnessed the presence of several distinguished figures, including SABA President and Arjuna Awardee Mr. Jaslal Pradhan, SABA Chief Coach and Dronacharya Awardee Ms. Sandhya Gurung, Vice President Mr. Bee Tshering Bhutia, General Secretary Ms. Anjana Thapa, Joint Secretary Mr. Papu Pradhan, Treasurer Mr. Sahadeo Chettri, along with executive members and Presidents of all six district associations of Sikkim.
The Special Guest invitees from Soreng District’s Sikkim Youngsters Boxing Club, Rumbuk, also participated, offering valuable insights for strengthening grassroots-level boxing.
A wide-ranging panel discussion was held on the development of boxing in Mangan District and Sikkim as a whole. Participants shared suggestions on organizing State and National-level championships across all categories, which were positively received.
Addressing the gathering, SABA President Mr. Jaslal Pradhan highlighted the transformative role of boxing in shaping youth careers, noting that the sport has enabled many to join Defence and Police services. He urged all districts to promote boxing at the grassroots level and mobilize community support.
Earlier, MDBA President Mr. Palden N. Lachungpa presented a proposal to be submitted to the Government of Sikkim, seeking enhanced infrastructure for boxing in Mangan District. He noted that the district has produced numerous talented boxers who have excelled at both State and National championships. He also expressed gratitude to the Government of Sikkim for its continued encouragement and support.
Various issues raised by district representatives were discussed in detail before the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by MDBA General Secretary Mr. Ganesh Subba.
