Imphal, Nov 6: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday conducted a comprehensive review of the functioning of the Churachandpur district administration through a video conference held at the Hotel Classic Grande in Imphal. The meeting focused on assessing the implementation of welfare programmes, rehabilitation efforts, and the progress of developmental initiatives across the district.
The review meeting covered a broad range of issues concerning governance, public welfare, and infrastructure development, with particular emphasis on the rehabilitation and welfare of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by the ethnic unrest in Manipur. Officials discussed the measures being taken to improve living conditions, strengthen rehabilitation efforts, and ensure the effective delivery of essential services to displaced families.
The Minister also reviewed the implementation of various Central and State-sponsored schemes in Churachandpur, assessing their progress and identifying areas that require greater attention. Discussions included the performance of programmes related to healthcare, education, agriculture, power supply, transport, handloom, handicrafts, and other sectors that play a crucial role in improving the socio-economic conditions of the district.
During the meeting, Dharun Kumar S., Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur, presented a detailed report on the district's administrative performance and ongoing development initiatives. He highlighted improvements in the education sector, noting better learning outcomes and a reduction in school dropout rates due to sustained efforts by the district administration and educational institutions.
The Deputy Commissioner also briefed the Minister on measures being undertaken to strengthen healthcare services, improve public infrastructure, and create livelihood opportunities for local communities. He informed the meeting that special attention is being given to rehabilitation programmes for internally displaced persons through the provision of essential services, welfare assistance, and livelihood support.
Officials further discussed the progress of infrastructure projects, implementation of rural development schemes, and initiatives aimed at promoting economic recovery in the district. Particular emphasis was placed on improving connectivity, expanding access to electricity, and strengthening support for traditional sectors such as handloom and handicrafts, which provide livelihoods to a significant section of the local population.
Appreciating the efforts of the district administration, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar commended the officials for their commitment to ensuring effective governance despite the challenges faced by the district. He encouraged the administration to continue implementing people-centric programmes with greater efficiency and transparency.
The Minister also urged officials to place stronger focus on agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry as key drivers of rural economic development. He observed that these sectors have significant potential to generate employment, improve household incomes, and promote self-reliance among rural communities while contributing to sustainable development.
Emphasising the importance of coordinated governance, the Minister called for continued collaboration among government departments to ensure the timely implementation of welfare schemes and development projects. He expressed confidence that sustained administrative efforts and effective execution of public programmes would contribute to long-term peace, stability, and inclusive development in Churachandpur district.
