Gangtok, November 8, 2025: An 89-member sports contingent representing four Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) of Sikkim departed for Rourkela, Odisha, to participate in the 4th National EMRS Sports Meet, scheduled from November 11 to 14, 2025.
The state team underwent an intensive week-long training camp held across Paljor Stadium, Reshithang Khel Gaon, Gangyap EMRS, and Suntoley EMRS, ensuring the athletes were well-prepared for the national event.
Sikkim’s contingent will compete in multiple disciplines, including Football, Basketball, Athletics, Boxing, Chess, Table Tennis, and Yoga, with participants in both boys’ and girls’ categories.
The team is led by Shri Sonam Gurung, OS, serving as Contingent Manager, and is supported by 10 escort teachers and staff from the Tribal Affairs Division of the Department of Social Welfare.
The contingent was flagged off from SNT, Gangtok, by Shri Suman Gurung, Special Secretary, Social Welfare Department, and Shri Prem Kamal Rai, Joint Secretary-cum-State Nodal Officer, EMRS Sikkim.
Officials expressed pride and encouragement to the young athletes, wishing them success as they represent the state at the national level.
