Thadou Inpi Manipur Issues Advisory on NH-2: Calls for Peace and Cooperation

Imphal, September 15, 2025: Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) today issued an advisory urging its members to maintain peace and cooperate with authorities amid concerns over obstructions on National Highway 2 (NH-2). The advisory reaffirmed that NH-2 is under the jurisdiction of the Government of India and that any obstruction constitutes a violation of citizens’ fundamental rights.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Kuki Zo Council (KZC) have reported that there have been no incidents affecting commuters, transportation, or the supply of essential goods along the highway in recent times. In addition, KZC, through Resolution No. 2 adopted at a public meeting in Kangpokpi on July 29, 2025, requested the deployment of central security forces to safeguard the free movement of people and goods.

TIM strongly appealed to the Thadou community to avoid participating in mob mobilisation, rioting, or highway blockades. The organisation cautioned against associating violent acts and destruction of public property with political causes and warned against being misled by inflammatory content on social media.

TIM further noted that key organisations, including the United People’s Front (UPF) and the Kuki National Organization (KNO), have endorsed KZC’s stance and are committed to abiding by the terms of the renegotiated Suspension of Operations (SoO) Agreement. All parties are expected to avoid involvement in activities that disrupt normalcy on NH-2.

In its advisory, TIM urged all community members to respect constitutional principles and work in solidarity with law enforcement to ensure the unhindered functioning of the highway for the welfare of all. The organisation also cautioned Thadous against falling prey to the propaganda machinery of extremist elements described as “Kuki-Jihadist shades,” which it claims have brought social unrest to the region.

Thadou Inpi Manipur concluded its appeal by calling for unity, restraint, and cooperation in the interest of peace and progress.
