Itanagar, September 5, 2025: Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma today interacted with members of the Itanagar Mizo Welfare Association (IMWA) at the State Guest House in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, where he commended the Mizo community residing in the state for maintaining unity, preserving their cultural identity, and contributing positively to society.
The interaction programme, organized by the Association, provided an opportunity for the Chief Minister to engage directly with members of the Mizo community living in Arunachal Pradesh and to hear about their activities, achievements, and concerns. The gathering was attended by community leaders, association office-bearers, and members representing different walks of life.
Addressing the gathering, Lalduhoma expressed his happiness at meeting fellow Mizos living outside their home state and praised the Association for its efforts in fostering solidarity and mutual support among community members. He noted that Mizo communities residing in different parts of the country often serve as ambassadors of Mizoram’s rich cultural heritage and values, strengthening ties between people and promoting goodwill wherever they reside.
As a gesture of encouragement and appreciation, the Chief Minister presented gifts to the Association and its members. He reiterated the Mizoram Government’s commitment to the welfare of Mizos living outside the state and assured continued support for initiatives aimed at promoting their social, cultural, and educational wellbeing.
According to Association leaders, the Itanagar Mizo Welfare Association currently has a membership of around 200 to 250 people and plays an active role in community development. The Association organizes annual celebrations of Chapchar Kut, one of Mizoram’s most important traditional festivals, helping younger generations remain connected to their cultural roots while sharing Mizo traditions with the wider community in Arunachal Pradesh.
Apart from cultural activities, the Association is also involved in various social and humanitarian initiatives, including blood donation drives, welfare assistance programmes, support for students and families in need, and community outreach activities. These efforts have helped strengthen bonds among members while contributing to the welfare of society at large.
During his address, the Chief Minister encouraged members to continue working together in the spirit of unity and cooperation. He emphasized the importance of preserving Mizo language, customs, and traditions while actively participating in the social and economic life of Arunachal Pradesh. He also urged the community to remain engaged in educational and developmental activities that would benefit future generations.
The programme featured an interactive session during which members shared their experiences and discussed matters related to community welfare. A brief cultural exchange was also held, highlighting the vibrancy of Mizo traditions and the strong sense of identity maintained by the community despite living away from their home state.
The meeting concluded on a cordial note, with Association members expressing gratitude to the Chief Minister for taking time to meet them during his visit to Arunachal Pradesh. The interaction further reinforced the bond between the Mizoram Government and Mizo communities living across India, while underscoring the importance of unity, cultural preservation, and mutual support among Mizos wherever they reside.
