The Bio-Input Resource Centre has been set up by the District Agriculture Office, Imphal West, as part of the government's initiative to encourage eco-friendly and sustainable farming practices. It is expected to serve as a key support centre for farmers by providing access to quality bio-inputs and promoting natural farming methods that minimise dependence on chemical fertilisers and pesticides.

Speaking at the inauguration, Principal Secretary A.K. Sinha highlighted the importance of adopting sustainable agricultural practices to improve soil fertility, protect the environment, and ensure long-term food security. He said the establishment of the Bio-Input Resource Centre reflects the government's commitment to encouraging farmers to transition towards natural farming while reducing production costs and enhancing agricultural sustainability.

The centre will function as a resource and training hub where farmers can learn the preparation and use of bio-inputs such as organic manures, bio-fertilisers, bio-pesticides, and microbial formulations. Officials said regular training programmes, demonstrations, and awareness campaigns will be organised to equip farmers with the knowledge and practical skills needed to successfully implement natural farming techniques.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed enthusiastic participation from farmers and members of the local community, reflecting growing interest in sustainable agricultural practices. Senior officials and dignitaries present on the occasion included Peter Salam, Director of Agriculture; S. Kennedy, District Agriculture Officer, Imphal West; and I. Shanta Singh, Pradhan of Khurkhul Gram Panchayat.

Officials noted that the centre will play a vital role in supporting farmers by providing technical guidance, improving access to eco-friendly agricultural inputs, and encouraging community-based production of bio-inputs. The initiative is also expected to strengthen local farming systems by reducing reliance on costly chemical inputs and promoting environmentally responsible cultivation practices.

The Bio-Input Resource Centre is expected to contribute significantly to improving soil health, conserving biodiversity, and producing safe and nutritious food. By encouraging natural farming, the government aims to enhance farm productivity while reducing environmental degradation and increasing farmers' incomes through lower cultivation costs.

Officials described the inauguration as a landmark step in Manipur's agricultural development. They said the initiative aligns with the broader objectives of the National Mission on Natural Farming and reinforces the state's commitment to building a resilient, climate-friendly, and sustainable agricultural sector that benefits both farmers and consumers.
