Kuki Village Volunteers Rejects NH-02 Reopening in Exchange for SoO Extension, Announces Boycott of Kuki-Zo Council

IMPHAL, Sept 4: The Village Volunteers Coordinating Committee (VVCC) has strongly rejected the recent announcement that the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) agreed to reopen National Highway-02 for free movement of commuters and essential commodities in return for an extension of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement.

Kuki Village Volunteers Rejects NH-02 Reopening in Exchange for SoO Extension, Announces Boycott of Kuki-Zo Council

In a statement issued today, the VVCC expressed “deep shock and disappointment,” terming the decision unilateral and made without consulting the public or stakeholders directly affected by the conflict. It declared the decision “null and void” and reiterated its stance that no free movement of the Meitei community will be permitted within Kuki-Zo territories until a separate administrative arrangement for the Kuki-Zo people is formally recognized.

The VVCC further announced a complete boycott of the KZC, warning that if the council continues its activities without retracting the decision, it will bear full responsibility for any fallout.

Clarifying its position, the VVCC stated that the SoO groups are not mandated representatives of the Kuki-Zo people and their decisions to extend the SoO pact with the Government of India do not reflect the collective will or political aspirations of the community.
