Shillong, September 10, 2025: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma attended the 2nd Media Meet in Shillong, a gathering that brought together local journalists from across the state along with veteran media professionals from different parts of the country.
During the event, Sangma felicitated several senior journalists for their decades of service to the profession and handed over ₹1 lakh each as part of the Chief Minister’s Special Grant in recognition of their contributions to journalism in Meghalaya.
Speaking at the programme, the Chief Minister emphasized the vital role of the media in shaping an informed society. He noted that the media acts as a bridge between the government and the people by enabling civic engagement, promoting accountability, and strengthening democratic governance.
“The evolving challenges of today’s information landscape highlight the need to support and empower media institutions at every level,” Sangma said. He added that the government is committed to recognizing the hard work of the press fraternity and ensuring that journalists have the resources they need to continue their mission.

The Media Meet also served as a platform for dialogue on issues confronting the press, including digital disruption, the fight against misinformation, and the responsibilities of journalists in a fast-changing communication environment.
Senior editors, reporters, and representatives from national media houses attended the event, commending the state government’s initiative to honor journalism and foster discussion on its future role.
