Kamalanagar, September 8, 2025: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), on Monday organized a massive peaceful protest rally in Kamalanagar, the headquarters of CADC, voicing public grievances over the steep hike in electricity bills and the deteriorating road conditions in the town and adjoining areas.

Massive Rally in Kamalanagar Against Electricity Bill Hike, Slams ZPM Government

Hundreds of BJP workers, auto-rickshaw drivers, and members of the general public joined the demonstration, carrying placards and raising slogans against what they called the “anti-people policies” of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM)-led Mizoram Government. Protesters also highlighted the poor state of the Lungrang South-Chawngte road, described as the town’s only lifeline.

Addressing the gathering at Kamalanagar-I, Shri Durjya Dhan Chakma, District President of BJP CADC, lashed out at the state government, alleging that the so-called “Mipui Sorkar” (People’s Government) has betrayed public trust. He cited abnormally high electricity bills ranging from ₹526 to ₹47,404 and an increase in the price of ration from ₹15 to ₹30 as examples of policies that have worsened the economic burden on the poor.

The protestors demanded urgent repair of roads and immediate relief from exorbitant electricity charges, stressing that families are being pushed into hardship and safety risks due to negligence in infrastructure.

The rally, marked by strong participation of men, women, and youth, was described by organizers as more than a protest - a united movement of the people to hold authorities accountable and press for justice, relief, and sustainable development for Kamalanagar and its surrounding communities.
