Guwahati, September 24, 2025: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday reviewed preparations for the nationwide rollout of Swadeshi 4G networks, scheduled to be launched on September 27, 2025, during a meeting with senior officials of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) at Lok Sewa Bhawan in Guwahati.
The review meeting focused on ensuring the successful implementation of the ambitious project in Assam, where around 2,000 indigenous 4G towers are set to become operational as part of the nationwide rollout covering one lakh 4G sites across the country. The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen digital connectivity, particularly in rural and remote areas of the state.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of infrastructure development, network readiness, and coordination among various agencies involved in the project. Dr. Sarma stressed the importance of completing all preparations on schedule to ensure uninterrupted deployment of the new network.
The Swadeshi 4G project has been developed under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and is regarded as a major milestone in India's efforts to build self-reliant telecommunications infrastructure. The network is powered by indigenous technology, with the core telecom solution developed by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT). Telecom equipment and towers have been supplied by Tejas Networks, while Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has served as the system integrator for the nationwide deployment.

Speaking during the meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of expanding reliable digital infrastructure to accelerate economic development, improve governance, and bridge the digital divide across Assam. He noted that enhanced mobile connectivity would benefit education, healthcare, agriculture, e-governance, and businesses, particularly in underserved regions.
Officials said the rollout of the indigenous 4G network represents a significant step toward technological self-reliance while reducing dependence on imported telecom equipment. With the activation of 2,000 towers across Assam, the state is expected to witness improved mobile coverage, faster internet services, and greater digital inclusion.
The launch is also seen as reinforcing India's vision of developing secure, homegrown telecommunications technology while strengthening the country's digital ecosystem and supporting the long-term goals of the Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat missions.
