Assam Police Seize Heroin Worth ₹8 Crore, Two from Manipur Arrested in Amingaon

Guwahati, September 2: In a major crackdown on inter-state drug trafficking, Assam Police seized heroin worth an estimated ₹8 crore and arrested two individuals from Manipur’s Churachandpur district.

The operation was carried out on September 1 at Amingaon in Kamrup, where a red Hyundai i10 (Regn No. MN 01-AW-2641) was intercepted based on intelligence inputs. Upon inspection, police recovered 74 soap boxes containing heroin weighing around 910 grams (excluding packaging). The contraband was carefully concealed inside the door panels and rear compartment of the vehicle.

The arrested persons have been identified as Gogou Suantak (33), son of Thangneinak Suantak of Sheiphei village, and Seilun Vaiphei (39), son of Thangkho Vaiphei of Makhao village - both from Sangaikot Police Station jurisdiction in Churachandpur.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, sharing the development on X (formerly Twitter), wrote:

“₹7.2 crore worth of heroin seized! Based on intel input, a vehicle coming from a neighbouring State was intercepted in Amingaon and 910 gms of heroin was recovered. Two accused have been arrested. Operation #AssamAgainstDrugs continues in full force.”

Police confirmed that the duo has been booked under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the broader network involved in the inter-state narcotics trade.
