AGARTALA, August 16, 2025: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on Friday highlighted the remarkable progress made by cricket in the state over the past seven years, attributing the growth to the government's sports-friendly policies and the sustained efforts of the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) in nurturing young talent.
Speaking at the TCA’s annual award distribution ceremony held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhaban in Agartala, the Chief Minister said that significant investments in sports infrastructure and athlete development have transformed the sporting landscape of Tripura. He noted that modern cricket facilities are being established across the state, creating opportunities for aspiring cricketers from both urban and rural areas to develop their skills and compete at higher levels.
“Tripura is steadily becoming a breeding ground for cricketing excellence. The infrastructure and opportunities being created will go a long way in shaping the careers of our young athletes,” Dr. Saha said while congratulating the award recipients for their achievements.
The Chief Minister emphasized that sports play a crucial role in shaping disciplined, confident and healthy youth. He encouraged young cricketers to remain dedicated, work hard and strive to represent Tripura and the country at national and international levels. He also pointed out that improved training facilities, coaching support and regular competitive exposure have contributed to the steady rise of cricket standards in the state.
Praising the Tripura Cricket Association, Dr. Saha said the organization has played a pivotal role in identifying and nurturing grassroots talent. Through various tournaments, coaching camps and talent-hunt programmes, the TCA has helped create a pathway for young players to pursue professional careers in cricket.
The annual awards ceremony recognized several promising cricketers for their outstanding performances in various age-group and senior competitions during the year. The event reflected the growing popularity of cricket in Tripura and the increasing participation of youth in the sport.
Expressing optimism about the future, the Chief Minister said that with continued government support, improved infrastructure and dedicated efforts from sporting bodies, Tripura is well-positioned to make a stronger presence on the national cricketing stage in the years ahead.
