Security Forces Recover Cache of Weapons, Arrest Multiple Militants in Manipur Operations

Imphal, August 25: Security Forces in Manipur continue their intensified operations across vulnerable and fringe areas, conducting search drives, area domination, and checkpoints aimed at curbing insurgency-related activities in the state. A total of 113 Nakas and checkpoints were set up across hill and valley districts, though no detentions were reported during routine checks.

On August 25, a major recovery was made from Singtom village under Sugnu Police Station in Kakching district. Security Forces seized a large cache comprising one INSAS rifle with magazine, one bolt-action rifle, two 51 mm mortars, two country-made carbines, one .32 pistol, seven IEDs, four Pompi launchers, 56 live rounds of assorted ammunition, 25 cartridge cases, tear smoke shells and grenades, communication equipment, body protection gear, tactical boots, and a waist belt.

In a series of separate operations, three active insurgents linked to banned outfits were arrested over the past two days:

Oinam Somenchandra Singh (41) alias Macha, a cadre of KCP (PWG), was arrested on August 24 from Taothong Khunou in Imphal West. He was reportedly involved in extortion activities targeting shops and the general public. A pistol with magazine was recovered from him.

Phanjoubam Ramanada Singh (23) alias Tiger, a cadre of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), was apprehended from Huikap Makha Leikai under Andro Police Station, Imphal East, on the same day. A mobile phone with SIM card was seized.

On August 25, Thongam Indrajit Meitei (33) of the KCP (MFL) was arrested from Takhel Mamang Leikai under Lamlai Police Station, Imphal East. An Aadhaar card was recovered from his possession.

Authorities stated that regular patrols, intensified search operations, and naka checkpoints will continue across districts to ensure law and order. The arrests and recoveries are being seen as a significant step in containing insurgent activities in the state.
