Security Forces Arrest KCP Cadre and Drug Smugglers in Manipur Operations

IMPHAL, Aug. 17, 2025: In a series of intelligence-driven combing and cordon-and-search operations, Manipur Police and security forces arrested multiple individuals involved in extortion and drug trafficking across the state on August 16.

According to Manipur Police, an active cadre of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) [KCP (PWG)], identified as Yumnam Milanjit Meitei (33) of Lairenkabi Awang Leikai Mamang Leirak, Imphal West, was arrested from Ghari Makha Leikai under Lamphel Police Station. He had been extorting money from educational institutions and the general public in the valley areas. A mobile phone was recovered from his possession.

In a separate operation under Moirang Police Station, Bishnupur district, security forces arrested two drug smugglers from Kwakta Terakhongshangbi Bazar along NH-02 (Tiddim Road). The arrestees were identified as Md. Najeruddin @ Babu Phisubam (42) and Md. Altab Khan @ Boy Moijingmayum (31), both residents of Kwakta Ward No. 8. Authorities seized 22 soap cases containing 256 grams of heroin, a four-wheeler vehicle, and two mobile phones.

Additionally, security forces under Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station nabbed another trafficker, Md. Arub Khan Ipham @ Khansa (26) of Kwakta Khuman Ward No. 5, from Kwakta Sabal Leikai along NH-02. From his possession, officials recovered 10 soap cases of heroin weighing 113 grams, a four-wheeler, and a mobile handset with a SIM card.

Police sources confirmed that sustained operations will continue to target extortion networks and curb drug trafficking across Manipur.
