Churachandpur, August 20: The Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, accompanied by the First Lady, paid a visit to Churachandpur district today to take stock of ongoing development initiatives, security preparedness, and welfare measures for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The Governor’s day-long visit began at the Pre-Fabricated Resettlement Camp in Torbung, where he interacted with IDPs, inaugurated a newly established Crèche Centre, and distributed relief materials. As part of his outreach to the youth, Shri Bhalla felicitated two students from the camp who successfully cracked NEET-2025, along with other meritorious students, encouraging them to pursue higher education and serve as role models.
On behalf of the local communities, the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) and village chiefs submitted memoranda to the Governor, requesting the construction of a multipurpose hall and other basic amenities for the displaced population.
Upon his arrival, the Governor was received by the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Churachandpur, along with senior civil and police officials.
At the DC office, the Governor held an interactive session with MLAs, civil society organisations, and student leaders. Delegates from the Kuki-Zo Council presented memoranda on a range of issues, including education, road connectivity, and governance, urging the Governor to initiate measures to improve living conditions and welfare services in the district.
The Zomi Council, represented by its leadership, also submitted their concerns, particularly on the resettlement and rehabilitation of IDPs. They highlighted challenges faced by displaced families and sought urgent government intervention. Shri Bhalla patiently heard the grievances and assured all stakeholders that their concerns would be taken into account in policy deliberations.
In the afternoon, the Governor chaired a high-level security review meeting at the headquarters of the 27 Sector Assam Rifles, where a detailed briefing was given by Brigadier S. Prashanth, Commander of the Sector. The meeting was attended by Lt. General Vikas Lakhera, Director General of Assam Rifles; Maj. General Ravroop Singh, IG AR (South); IGP Kabib K., and other senior police and military officers. The discussions focused on maintaining peace, preventing illicit activities, and ensuring safety in the region.

Concluding his visit, Shri Bhalla proceeded to Geljang Resort, where he was accorded a traditional welcome by the village chief. The Governor witnessed a vibrant display of Mizo cultural dance, appreciating the rich heritage and resilience of the people of Churachandpur.
During his engagements, Governor Bhalla reiterated the government’s commitment to improving living standards in Churachandpur, strengthening infrastructure, and safeguarding the welfare of displaced families. He urged all stakeholders to work together for peace, harmony, and development in the state.
