Shillong, August 13, 2025: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today launched the Chief Minister’s Urban Livelihood Scheme by disbursing a one-time grant of ₹10,000 each to pavement vendors in Ïewduh, benefiting more than 430 vendors in the first phase.
The scheme is aimed at supporting economically vulnerable individuals engaged in informal urban livelihoods, including street vending, small-scale trading, micro-enterprises, and other essential services that contribute to the urban economy but often lack formal recognition or institutional backing.
Through direct financial assistance, the scheme aims to help beneficiaries stabilize their incomes, expand their business capacity, and foster entrepreneurship—empowering them to build more secure and sustainable livelihoods.

CM Sangma said the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to empowering small vendors and informal sector workers by providing them with financial assistance to strengthen their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
The state government plans to expand the scheme to other urban areas, ensuring more beneficiaries across Meghalaya can access much-needed support to sustain and grow their income-generating activities.
