Meghalaya Cabinet Approves SOP and Age Relaxation for Regularization of Post-2007 Ad-Hoc Employees

Shillong, August 26, 2025: The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved a proposal for framing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and granting a one-time age relaxation to facilitate the regularization of ad-hoc employees appointed to government sanctioned posts after December 31, 2007.

While the Supreme Court allows direct regularization of ad-hoc appointments made before December 31, 2007, the Cabinet has decided that employees appointed post this date will undergo a proper selection process involving exams and interviews. Approximately 1,500 such posts will be filled through this route.

The approved SOP will guide this process, ensuring transparency and fairness. Additionally, eligible long-serving ad-hoc employees will receive a one-time age relaxation to enable their participation in the recruitment process.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma emphasized the importance of this decision in complying with legal directives while providing deserving employees a fair opportunity to secure regular employment.

This move follows earlier government efforts to regularize ad-hoc appointments before 2007 and represents ongoing steps to strengthen public service recruitment in Meghalaya.
