Kohima, August 16, 2025: In a meaningful initiative aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene and women’s well-being, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha, Nagaland, organized a free sanitary pad distribution programme on the occasion of Independence Day as part of the ongoing #HarGharTiranga Yatra.
The programme was conducted with the objective of raising awareness about menstrual health and hygiene while ensuring greater access to essential sanitary products for women and girls. Organizers said the initiative sought to address both health and social challenges associated with menstruation, particularly among women from rural, economically weaker and underserved communities.
Speaking about the campaign, party representatives emphasized that menstrual hygiene is an important public health issue that often remains surrounded by social stigma and misinformation. They noted that lack of access to sanitary products and limited awareness about menstrual health can adversely affect the health, education and overall well-being of women and adolescent girls.
The free distribution drive aimed not only to provide sanitary pads but also to encourage open discussions on menstrual health and break long-standing taboos surrounding the subject. Volunteers interacted with beneficiaries and highlighted the importance of proper hygiene practices in preventing infections and promoting reproductive health.
According to the BJP Mahila Morcha, the initiative aligns with the broader vision of women’s empowerment and inclusive development championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
