Kohima, August 16, 2025: In a meaningful initiative aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene and women’s well-being, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha, Nagaland, organized a free sanitary pad distribution programme on the occasion of Independence Day as part of the ongoing #HarGharTiranga Yatra.

The programme was conducted with the objective of raising awareness about menstrual health and hygiene while ensuring greater access to essential sanitary products for women and girls. Organizers said the initiative sought to address both health and social challenges associated with menstruation, particularly among women from rural, economically weaker and underserved communities.

Speaking about the campaign, party representatives emphasized that menstrual hygiene is an important public health issue that often remains surrounded by social stigma and misinformation. They noted that lack of access to sanitary products and limited awareness about menstrual health can adversely affect the health, education and overall well-being of women and adolescent girls.

The free distribution drive aimed not only to provide sanitary pads but also to encourage open discussions on menstrual health and break long-standing taboos surrounding the subject. Volunteers interacted with beneficiaries and highlighted the importance of proper hygiene practices in preventing infections and promoting reproductive health.

According to the BJP Mahila Morcha, the initiative aligns with the broader vision of women’s empowerment and inclusive development championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The programme reflects the government's focus on strengthening the role of “Nari Shakti” by ensuring that women have access to basic health and hygiene facilities, enabling them to lead healthier, safer and more dignified lives.

Party leaders said empowering women begins with addressing fundamental needs such as healthcare, education and sanitation. They added that initiatives promoting menstrual hygiene contribute significantly to gender equality by helping women participate more confidently in education, employment and community life.

The organizers also stressed that awareness campaigns are as important as the distribution of sanitary products. They noted that many women, especially in remote areas, continue to face challenges due to inadequate information about menstrual health. Community-driven programmes, they said, play a crucial role in creating awareness, encouraging healthy practices and fostering supportive environments for women and girls.

The programme received positive responses from participants, who appreciated the effort to address an issue that often receives limited public attention. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support and welcomed the awareness messages shared during the event.

The BJP Mahila Morcha Nagaland reiterated its commitment to organizing similar outreach programmes in the future, focusing on women’s health, education and empowerment. Leaders said such initiatives embody the spirit of independence by promoting self-reliance, dignity and equal opportunities for all.

As the nation continues to celebrate the contributions of women to society, the sanitary pad distribution drive served as a reminder that improving access to healthcare and hygiene remains an essential step toward building a healthier, more inclusive and empowered India.
