Sivasagar, August 3: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Monday chaired a detailed review meeting with officials of the School Education Department at the Office of the District Commissioner in Sivasagar to assess the impact of the recent floods on educational institutions across the district.

During the meeting, officials reviewed the extent of damage caused by the floods and discussed measures to restore normal academic activities at the earliest. According to official figures, 545 out of the 1,233 schools in Sivasagar district have been affected by the floods, with many institutions still submerged under floodwaters.
Expressing concern over the widespread damage, the Minister directed officials to undertake a comprehensive assessment of all affected schools without delay. He instructed that the survey should cover not only school buildings and classrooms but also furniture, laboratory equipment, libraries, digital infrastructure, teaching materials, and other educational assets damaged by the floods.
Pegu said the assessment would enable the government to prepare a detailed restoration plan and ensure that damaged infrastructure is repaired as quickly as possible.
"Our priority is to restore normal academic activities at the earliest," the Minister said, reaffirming the Assam Government's commitment to supporting flood-affected schools and ensuring that students can return to a safe and conducive learning environment.

He assured that the government would provide all necessary assistance for the repair and restoration of damaged educational infrastructure so that learning is not disrupted for an extended period.
The review meeting comes as Sivasagar and several other districts in Upper Assam continue to recover from the devastating floods that inundated large areas, damaging homes, public infrastructure, agricultural land, and educational institutions.
The Education Department is expected to begin restoration work immediately after the damage assessment is completed. The state government has reiterated that restoring schools and resuming classroom teaching remain among its top priorities as relief and rehabilitation efforts continue across the flood-affected districts.
