The Chief Minister, who is in Shillong to attend a seminar organized by the Ministry of Finance, inspected the project site and reviewed arrangements required for the lodge to become fully functional. The facility is being developed by the Mizoram Government to provide accommodation and support services for patients and their attendants travelling to Shillong for treatment at NEIGRIHMS.
The Patient Lodge has been constructed at an approved cost of ₹4.19 crore with financial assistance from the North Eastern Council (NEC). Officials informed the Chief Minister that the NEC has already released the entire sanctioned amount and that construction of the project has been virtually completed.
The lodge has been designed with a capacity of 60 beds and is expected to significantly ease accommodation difficulties faced by patients from Mizoram who travel to Shillong for specialized medical treatment. Once operational, the facility will provide a safe and affordable place for patients and caregivers during their stay.
During the inspection, discussions were held on additional requirements that were not included under the original NEC project. These include the construction of an approach road, pavement works, procurement of furniture, and other supporting infrastructure necessary for the smooth functioning of the facility.
Representatives of the Shillong Mizo Welfare Association also highlighted the need for a waiting and resting area for patients and their family members visiting NEIGRIHMS. The requirement for staff quarters to accommodate personnel responsible for managing and maintaining the lodge was also discussed.
The Chief Minister directed officials to prepare detailed estimates and project proposals for the remaining works and submit them to the Planning Department for consideration. He emphasized the importance of completing all necessary facilities before the lodge is opened to the public.
