Aizawl, June 19: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Thursday flagged off a fleet of newly procured police vehicles under the Assistance to State and Union Territories for Modernization of Police (ASUMP) Scheme 2025–2026 at the 3rd Battalion MAP Parade Ground, Mualpui.
The flag-off ceremony was attended by Home Minister K. Sapdanga, senior government officials, top police officers, Unit Heads, and officers of the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) and above stationed in Aizawl.
The vehicle procurement forms part of a major police modernization initiative approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India. Under the ASUMP Scheme 2025–2026, the MHA’s High-Power Committee sanctioned the procurement of 219 vehicles for Mizoram Police to improve mobility, strengthen operational capabilities, and enhance public service delivery across the state.
The modernization project involves an investment of Rs. 33.83 crore, including a Central share of Rs. 30.45 crore and a State contribution of Rs. 3.38 crore.
The newly acquired fleet includes 15 eco-friendly electric scooters, 21 motorcycles, 96 Light Motor Vehicles such as Scorpio N, Bolero Neo, Bolero B6 and Bolero Camper vehicles, 18 Heavy Motor Vehicles, 30 Medium Motor Vehicles, and 24 buses, which are yet to be delivered. The fleet also includes five water tankers, three prison vans, three bullet-resistant Toyota Fortuner vehicles for Z+ category VVIP security duties, and four towing trucks for traffic management and operational support.
According to officials, all 44 police stations in Mizoram will receive new Light Motor Vehicles, while each of the state's 15 police outposts will be provided with one vehicle. Additional vehicles will be allocated to Armed Police Battalions, Specialized Units, District Executive Forces (DEFs), and the Police Training School.
Officials noted that vehicle procurement under the Police Modernization Scheme had not been permitted since 2017 and that Mizoram had not received Central funding under the Police Modernization Programme since the 2021–22 financial year.
The induction of the new fleet is expected to significantly improve police mobility, emergency response, law enforcement efficiency, and public service delivery, marking a major milestone in the modernization of Mizoram Police.
