Governor Hails YMA’s 91-Year Legacy, Calls for Unity and Stronger Fight Against Drugs

Aizawl, June 15, 2026: Mizoram Governor General (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd.) has extended warm greetings to the Young Mizo Association (YMA) and its members on the occasion of the organisation’s 91st Foundation Day, commending its longstanding contribution to social welfare, cultural preservation, and community development across the state.

In a message issued on Monday, the Governor described YMA as the largest socio-cultural and voluntary organisation in Mizoram and acknowledged its significant role in serving society since its establishment. He noted that the organisation has consistently remained at the forefront of community service and humanitarian efforts, earning widespread respect and recognition among the people of the state.

General Singh lauded YMA for its unwavering commitment to helping those in need, particularly during times of crisis and emergencies. He said the organisation has played a vital role in strengthening social solidarity and fostering a spirit of volunteerism among the people of Mizoram.

The Governor also praised YMA’s efforts in preserving and promoting Mizo culture, traditions, and heritage. He observed that the organisation has been instrumental in safeguarding the unique identity and values of the Mizo people while encouraging younger generations to remain connected to their cultural roots.

Highlighting the association’s partnership with the government, the Governor said YMA has provided valuable support in the implementation of various public welfare initiatives and awareness programmes. Through its extensive grassroots network, the organisation has helped ensure the effective outreach of government schemes and community-driven activities across the state.

On the occasion of the foundation day, General Singh called upon the people of Mizoram to uphold the cherished Mizo value of Tlawmngaihna, which embodies selflessness, compassion, sacrifice, and voluntary service to others. He described the principle as a defining characteristic of Mizo society and urged citizens to continue practising it in their daily lives.

The Governor further appealed to the people to promote unity and harmony among different sections of society and to maintain respect for elders while preserving the rich cultural heritage of the state. Emphasising the importance of collective responsibility, he encouraged citizens to work together for the welfare and progress of the community.

Expressing concern over the growing threat of drug abuse and substance addiction, General Singh urged the public to remain vigilant and actively participate in efforts to combat the menace. He stressed that protecting the younger generation from drugs is essential for securing a brighter future for Mizoram.

The Governor also expressed confidence that YMA would continue to work closely with the government, civil society organisations, and community leaders in addressing social challenges and promoting the welfare of the people.

As YMA celebrates its 91st year of service, General Singh said the organisation’s dedication to community welfare, cultural preservation, and social development continues to serve as an inspiration. He conveyed his best wishes to the association and its members for continued success in their mission of serving society and contributing to the progress of Mizoram and the nation.
