Nagaland CM Reviews Monsoon Preparedness, Stresses Coordination and Timely Response

Kohima, May 29, 2026: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Friday chaired a high-level meeting to review the state's preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season, emphasizing the need for coordinated action and swift response to potential challenges.

The meeting brought together officials from various line departments and representatives of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to assess the readiness of critical infrastructure and essential services across the state.

During the review, discussions focused on infrastructure preparedness, emergency response mechanisms, healthcare support systems, and the availability of essential commodities and public services during periods of heavy rainfall and possible disruptions.

The Chief Minister took stock of measures being implemented to address monsoon-related risks, including road connectivity issues, landslides, flooding, and disruptions to essential supplies. Officials also reviewed contingency plans and response strategies aimed at minimizing the impact of adverse weather conditions on communities across Nagaland.

Rio stressed the importance of strengthening coordination among government departments, agencies, and infrastructure authorities to ensure prompt and effective action during emergencies. He underscored the need for timely interventions to maintain connectivity, safeguard public health, and ensure uninterrupted access to essential services and commodities.

The Chief Minister stated that ensuring preparedness before the onset of the monsoon remains a priority for the government, particularly in a state where heavy rainfall often affects transportation networks and public infrastructure.

Officials from NHIDCL briefed the meeting on the status of highway infrastructure and measures being undertaken to improve road safety and connectivity during the rainy season. The meeting also reviewed healthcare preparedness and the availability of emergency support systems in vulnerable areas.

The state government reiterated its commitment to proactive planning and inter-departmental cooperation to mitigate the impact of monsoon-related challenges and ensure the safety and well-being of citizens throughout the season.
