Shillong, May 18: Athletes from Meghalaya delivered an impressive performance at the National Physique Championship held in Uttarakhand, bringing home multiple medals and earning praise from leaders and supporters across the state.
Sharing the achievement on social media, Meghalaya Cabinet Minister Marcuise N. Marak described the accomplishment as a proud moment for East Garo Hills and the entire state.
Among the standout performers was coach and bodybuilder Atlanta D. Shira, who won gold in the Super Heavyweight Bodybuilding category and silver in Men’s Classic Physique at the championship organised by the International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB).
Another Meghalaya athlete, Bishal Rai, secured gold in Junior Bodybuilding, while Arjun Basfor claimed silver in the Welterweight category.
Marak praised the athletes for their discipline, hard work and dedication, saying their success continues to inspire young people and reflects Meghalaya’s growing presence in the field of bodybuilding and fitness.

The minister also announced that Atlanta D. Shira will now represent Meghalaya at the Sheru Classic 2026, one of India’s biggest international bodybuilding competitions and a Road to Olympia qualifying event, scheduled to be held in Delhi from June 11 to 14.
