Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Reviews Food Supply, Infrastructure and Finance Departments

Guwahati, May 15: Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday chaired a series of high-level review meetings with multiple departments, focusing on food security, fiscal management and infrastructure development as part of the Assam government’s push towards building a “Viksit Assam”.

Reviewing the Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Department, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma directed officials to streamline the supply of essential commodities across the state. He instructed authorities to expedite Aadhaar seeding and e-KYC processes for beneficiaries while accelerating the distribution of pulses, sugar and salt.

The Chief Minister also stressed the need to strengthen paddy procurement and make the procurement process more farmer-friendly to ensure fair returns for farmers. He said the government aimed to surpass previous procurement records and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to a transparent, technology-driven food security system.

In a statement shared after the meetings, Sarma said he had concluded a six-hour marathon review session with officials from various departments to restore momentum in governance and development initiatives.

Reviewing the Finance Department, the Chief Minister assessed the status of key government programmes and examined the fiscal health of the state ahead of the full budget. He said the discussions also focused on incorporating pathways to fulfil promises made to the people of Assam.

During the review of the Public Works Department (PWD), Sarma evaluated the progress of flagship infrastructure schemes, including the Asom Mala project and other major connectivity initiatives across the state.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to speed up the construction of roads and bridges with an emphasis on quality so that all parts of Assam remain well connected.

Sarma said that with the NDA 3.0 government now functioning in full swing, all departments must accelerate the implementation of schemes and projects to support the vision of building a “New Assam”.
