CHAMPHAI, May 27: The All Mizoram Farmers’ Union (AMFU) held its General Assembly 2026 at Thangtea Hall, Kahrawt Veng in Champhai on Tuesday, with Champhai Additional Deputy Commissioner Pu Lalbiakfela attending the programme as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Pu Lalbiakfela praised the contributions and continuous efforts of farmers towards the development and economic progress of Mizoram. He stated that farmers remain the backbone of the state and stressed that Mizoram’s advancement would not be possible without their contribution.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner highlighted several initiatives and developmental works being undertaken in Champhai district in the fields of farming and agriculture. He also spoke about various government schemes and policies currently being implemented to support farmers and strengthen the agricultural sector.
Referring to Champhai district’s agricultural productivity, Lalbiakfela noted that farmers in the district have achieved significant success in producing and marketing large quantities of paddy and other crops through their hard work and dedication. He said the achievements of the farming community deserve appreciation and recognition.
He encouraged members of the union to make the General Assembly a meaningful and successful event and expressed hope that AMFU would continue to play an important role in contributing to the progress and development of Mizoram.

The General Assembly was conducted in two sessions. The first session was chaired by AMFU General Headquarters president Pu Chhuanvawra, while General Secretary Pu Lalhmachhuana presented the organisation’s report and conducted an introduction session.
AMFU General Headquarters Senior Vice President Pu H. Taithuama also addressed the gathering, while Vice President Pu H. Thangtluanga delivered the vote of thanks before the first session concluded.
The second session of the programme was chaired by Vice President Pu P.C. Lalzirliana. During the session, organisational deliberations and discussions were held, followed by the election of office bearers and leaders for the next term.
The assembly brought together AMFU members and farmers from different parts of the state to discuss agricultural issues, organisational matters, and future plans for strengthening the farming sector in Mizoram.
AMFU has been actively working for the welfare of farmers across Mizoram by advocating for better agricultural support, market access, and government assistance aimed at improving the livelihoods of the farming community.
