Aizawl, April 27: The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) registered a sweeping victory in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) Election 2026, winning 17 out of 19 wards and securing a commanding majority in the civic body. The results were officially declared on Monday at Aizawl Bawrhsap Hall, paving the way for ZPM to form the next administration of the Aizawl Municipal Corporation.

The election results reflected strong support for the ruling party in the state capital, with ZPM dominating the contest across most wards. The remaining two seats were shared between the Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), each winning one ward.
According to the final results, the following candidates were elected on ZPM tickets: Vanlalhriata (Ward 1), R. Lalmawipuii (Ward 2), Vanlalfaka (Ward 3), Vanlalhriatrengi (Ward 4), Dr. Lallawmkimi Tochhawngi (Ward 5), H. Lalremtluanga (Ward 6), Zochhuana (Ward 7), Christina Roluahpuii Sailo (Ward 8), PB Lallawmzuala (Ward 10), Helen Rualchhingi (Ward 11), C. Vanlalhruaii (Ward 12), Vanlalhruaia (Ward 13), Roy Lalhriatpuia (Ward 14), VL Zamlova (Ward 15), R. Lalawmpuii (Ward 16), Lalremruati Sailo (Ward 17), and K. Lalrodinga (Ward 18).
The MNF secured victory in Ward 9, where B. Lalawmpuii emerged victorious, while the Congress won Ward 19 through Dr. Lalmalsawma Nghaka.
The election witnessed significant voter participation across the municipal area. Official data showed that the AMC electorate comprised 2,39,989 registered voters, including 1,29,656 women and 1,10,333 men. Female voters outnumbered male voters by 19,323, highlighting the strong presence of women in the electoral process.
Among the wards, Ward 18 recorded the highest number of registered voters with 18,906 electors, while Ward 8 had the lowest voter population with 7,975 registered voters.
Election authorities reported that a total of 1,50,640 votes were cast during the polling process, reflecting substantial public participation in the civic elections. The voter turnout underscored the importance residents attached to local governance and municipal administration.

Political observers noted that the outcome represents a major endorsement of ZPM’s governance agenda and development policies. With 17 seats in its favour, the party now enjoys a comfortable majority in the municipal corporation and is expected to play a dominant role in shaping urban development, civic infrastructure, sanitation, waste management, and public service delivery in Aizawl over the coming term.
The AMC election is regarded as an important indicator of public sentiment in the state capital, and the results are expected to strengthen ZPM’s political position. The newly elected councillors will soon assume office and begin the process of constituting the next municipal administration.
With the election concluded and the results declared, attention now turns to the formation of the new AMC leadership and the implementation of civic development initiatives aimed at improving urban governance and quality of life for residents of Aizawl.
