Addressing the media, TNL President Sword Vashum described the attack as a brutal assault on unarmed civilians and called for swift action against those responsible.

According to TNL, the incident occurred at around 2:35 PM when a convoy of six vehicles carrying passengers - including women, children and elderly persons - was travelling from Imphal to Ukhrul. The convoy had reportedly crossed sensitive areas such as Mahadev and Litan under security escort.

However, the attack was launched shortly after the escort team turned back towards Litan, the organisation said.

TNL alleged that armed Kuki militants, including cadres operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, targeted the convoy using snipers and long-range rifles. Four of the six vehicles in the convoy were reportedly hit during what the organisation described as a “premeditated and brutal” attack.

The organisation has demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and stronger security measures to ensure the safety of civilians travelling along the route.
