Indoor Cricket Academy at Kurkalang in Shillong, set to be virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to boost cricket infrastructure in Meghalaya.

The facility has been developed by the Meghalaya Cricket Association with support from the Board of Control for Cricket in India to strengthen cricket infrastructure in Meghalaya.

MCA president James Sangma said the project marks the completion of a facility that had remained unfinished for several months earlier. He noted that the intervention of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma helped accelerate the remaining work to make the academy ready for inauguration.

One of the key hurdles ahead of commissioning the academy was the lack of electricity, which was resolved after power connectivity was secured from Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited within just 12 days.

Sangma described the inauguration as a landmark moment for cricket in the state and the wider Northeast, inviting MCA members and affiliates to attend the ceremony at the Kurkalang facility.

The academy is expected to provide modern indoor training infrastructure, enabling year-round practice and player development in the region. MCA officials said discussions are already underway with advisory committees and former players to design training programmes and development initiatives at the new facility.

With the launch of the Kurkalang academy, authorities believe Meghalaya will gain a major boost in cricket infrastructure, helping nurture young talent and strengthen the sport across the Northeast.
