Manipur Observes Khongjom Day 2026, Tributes Paid to War Heroes

Imphal, April 23: Khongjom Day 2026 was solemnly observed at Khebaching, Khongjom, on Wednesday, with Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh presiding over the commemorative event in the presence of Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and other dignitaries.

The observance paid homage to Major Paona Brajabashi and the brave martyrs of the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891, whose sacrifices are remembered as a symbol of courage and patriotism in the state’s history.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister highlighted the enduring legacy of the heroes who laid down their lives in defense of Manipur. He noted that their bravery and sacrifice continue to inspire the people to uphold the values of patriotism, unity, and dedication to the nation.

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh appealed to the public to maintain peace and avoid confrontation among themselves. He also urged people to refrain from excessive violence during protests, stating that such actions only hamper developmental work in the state.

The Chief Minister further called upon the public to cooperate with authorities in ensuring justice for the victims of the Tronglaobi bombing incident, stressing that collective efforts are necessary to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.

Leaders and officials present at the ceremony offered floral tributes and paid respects to the martyrs, reaffirming their commitment to preserving the legacy of those who fought for the state during the historic battle of Khongjom.

Khongjom Day is observed annually in Manipur to commemorate the bravery and sacrifice of Manipuri soldiers who fought against British forces in the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891.
