Imphal, April 20: CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh attended the 83rd commemoration of the Japanese aerial bombing at Khurai Chingangbam Mandop on Monday, paying floral tributes to those who lost their lives during the World War II airstrike.
The event was held at the Multipurpose Hall in Khurai Thangjam Leikai in the presence of Kh. Loken Singh and Th. Arunkumar Singh.
During the ceremony, leaders and attendees paid homage to the departed souls who died in the bombing, remembering their sacrifice with deep respect and reverence.
The Japanese aerial bombing during World War II marked the first time the people of Manipur experienced the realities of war firsthand. The incident remains an important chapter in the state’s history and is commemorated annually to honour the victims and reaffirm a collective commitment to peace and resilience.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a Women Market Shed at New Checkon, aimed at improving facilities for women vendors. The project is expected to provide a safer and more organised space for vendors—locally known as Emas—while strengthening their livelihoods.
Khemchand said the government remains committed to developing infrastructure, empowering women vendors and promoting inclusive growth as part of the vision for a stronger and self-reliant Manipur.
