M. Joy Singh Appointed Manipur State Election Commissioner

Imphal, April 15: The Government of Manipur has appointed Shri M. Joy Singh, IAS (Retd.), as the State Election Commissioner of the Manipur State Election Commission.

According to an order issued by the Law and Legislative Affairs Department on April 15, the appointment was made under Article 243K of the Constitution of India and the Election Commissioner of Manipur (Conditions of Service) Rules, 1994. He will serve as State Election Commissioner until he attains the age of 62, i.e., December 31, 2026.

M. Joy Singh is a 2004-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Manipur cadre. Born on January 1, 1965, he holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. in Statistics and has served in several important administrative positions in the state government during his career.

Over the years, he has held key roles including Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal district and senior administrative posts in the Government of Manipur, including Commissioner-level positions in departments such as Art & Culture and Urban Development. 

Officials said his long experience in public administration is expected to strengthen the functioning of the State Election Commission, which is responsible for conducting elections to local bodies such as municipalities and panchayats in Manipur.
