According to a press release issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), isolated places in the Barak Valley districts of Cachar, Dima Hasao, Hailakandi and Sribhumi are likely to experience intense rainfall along with wind speeds of 50–60 kmph.
IMD has also predicted a few spells of rain in Guwahati during the next two to three days.
Authorities said the prevailing weather pattern may lead to waterlogging, slow vehicular movement and an increased risk of localized landslides in vulnerable areas. District administrations and emergency response systems have been kept on alert and are closely monitoring the situation.
In view of the forecast, ASDMA has urged residents of Barak Valley and Guwahati to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. Daily commuters and long-distance travellers have been advised to plan their journeys carefully and avoid unnecessary movement during periods of intense rainfall.
Residents living in low-lying and hillside areas have also been advised to stay alert for signs of flooding or landslides and follow updates and advisories issued by local authorities.
