Leaders of BJP Mahila Morcha Nagaland address a condemnation programme in Dimapur, protesting the defeat of the 131st Amendment Bill and demanding 33% women’s reservation.

The programme was held under the leadership of Tsachola Rothrong, President of BJP Mahila Morcha Nagaland, and was conducted under the guidance of Benjamin Yepthomi, President of the BJP Nagaland unit. Participants described the event as a platform to express solidarity with women across the country and to advocate for stronger measures aimed at ensuring equal participation of women in governance and decision-making.

Addressing the gathering, Rothrong emphasized the importance of implementing 33 percent reservation for women in legislative institutions, arguing that greater representation is essential for achieving inclusive and balanced governance. She stated that women constitute a significant portion of the population and therefore deserve adequate representation in political decision-making processes at all levels.

Rothrong also highlighted the relevance of delimitation in ensuring fair and effective democratic representation. She pointed out that India’s population has witnessed substantial growth over the decades, increasing from approximately 54 crore in 1971 to nearly 140 crore today. According to her, the existing structure of political representation has not expanded proportionately to reflect this demographic change, making reforms necessary to strengthen democratic participation.

She argued that enhanced representation of women in legislative bodies would help bring diverse perspectives into policymaking and ensure that issues affecting women, children, families, and communities receive greater attention. Rothrong further stressed that empowering women politically is not merely a matter of fairness but also a key factor in promoting social progress and sustainable development.

Calling on citizens and political leaders to support measures that advance women’s rights, she stated that the progress of any society is closely linked to the level of participation and leadership opportunities available to women. She urged all stakeholders to work collectively toward creating a more inclusive political environment where women can contribute meaningfully to governance.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP Nagaland State President Benjamin Yepthomi reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the principles of equality, dignity, and justice for women. He expressed solidarity with the Mahila Morcha and praised its efforts to raise awareness about the importance of women’s representation in public life.

The programme concluded with participants reaffirming their support for women’s reservation and expressing their determination to continue advocating for greater representation of women in political institutions. Organizers stated that the movement for women’s empowerment and equal representation would remain a priority and pledged to continue engaging with the public on issues related to women’s rights and political participation.
