Dimapur, April 23: The BJP Mahila Morcha Nagaland on Friday organised a condemnation programme in Dimapur to protest against what it described as the rejection of women’s rights following the defeat of the 131st Amendment Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha.

The programme was held under the leadership of Tsachola Rothrong, President of BJP Mahila Morcha Nagaland, with guidance from Benjamin Yepthomi, State President of the BJP Nagaland unit.
Addressing the gathering, Rothrong emphasised the urgent need for the 33% Women’s Reservation in legislative bodies and highlighted the importance of delimitation in ensuring fair democratic representation. She pointed out that while India’s population has increased significantly—from around 54 crore in 1971 to nearly 140 crore today - the structure of political representation has not kept pace with the demographic growth.

Rothrong urged citizens and political leaders to support measures that promote women’s empowerment and equal representation in governance. She stated that the progress of society is closely linked to the participation and leadership of women in decision-making processes.
Speaking on the occasion, BJP Nagaland State President Benjamin Yepthomi reiterated the party’s commitment to equality, dignity and justice for women. He expressed solidarity with the Mahila Morcha and called for continued efforts to strengthen women’s rights and opportunities in public life.
The gathering concluded with participants reaffirming their support for women’s reservation and greater representation of women in political institutions.
