Assam: Jirighat Murder Case Solved Within 12 Hours; Four Arrested in Cachar

Silchar, April 21: Cachar Police have solved the murder of a 60-year-old man in Jirighat within 12 hours of the incident, arresting four suspects and recovering weapons allegedly used in the crime.

The deceased has been identified as Luku Miya (60) of Baghkhal village under Jirighat Police Station. According to police, the incident occurred on Monday morning (April 20) at Kadamtilla village in Jirighat, where the victim was allegedly shot dead following a long-running land dispute.

Police said a group of armed men reportedly arrived at Luku Miya’s residence, called him outside, and forcibly took him away. He was allegedly shot and later assaulted with sticks, leading to his death.

Acting swiftly, Cachar Police launched an investigation and arrested four suspects—Saharul Haque Laskar, Sajul Islam Laskar, Babul Haque Choudhury, and Suzan Aktar Laskar—in connection with the killing.

During the operation, police also recovered two country-made rifles, a pistol, and ammunition believed to have been used in the crime.

Officials said the murder is suspected to be linked to a prolonged land dispute in the area. Further investigation is ongoing as police work to ensure justice in the case.
