Guwahati, April 22: The Chief Secretary of Assam Dr. Ravi Kota, IAS chaired a virtual conference with Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies to review the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) infrastructure across the state, in line with directions from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
During the meeting, the Chief Secretary stressed strict adherence to project timelines and directed authorities to ensure mandatory switchover to PNG in areas where connections are already available within three months. He also instructed officials to prioritise industrial supply and comply with updated pipeline norms while intensifying implementation efforts during the month of June.
District administrations were directed to expedite pending clearances, strengthen coordination with implementing agencies, and ensure faster rollout of PNG infrastructure. To improve public awareness, joint teams will undertake targeted outreach programmes across districts to engage consumers and highlight the benefits of PNG as a cleaner energy source.
Specific directions were issued to several districts. In Kamrup Metro, the District Commissioner will directly lead implementation and monitoring efforts. Cachar district has been asked to intensify public outreach and review pending permissions. Authorities in Darrang were instructed to ensure clear and consistent communication with consumers, while Sonitpur officials were directed to strengthen coordination with the implementing agency and submit detailed progress reports.

For districts under the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) - Kokrajhar, Baksa, and Chirang - officials were asked to work closely with Adani Total Gas Ltd. to resolve pending permissions and accelerate the rollout of PNG infrastructure.
Reiterating the importance of clean energy adoption, the Chief Secretary called for seamless coordination among stakeholders and regular monitoring to ensure rapid expansion of PNG services across Assam.
