Itanagar, April 26: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Saturday and discussed a range of strategic infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and accelerating development in the state’s remote and border regions.

During the meeting, Khandu highlighted several priority projects requiring support from the Central Government, particularly those related to road connectivity and infrastructure development in frontier areas. Among the key proposals discussed were the Akajan–Likabali–Bame road corridor and the construction of a bridge over the Taro Tamak River, both considered crucial for enhancing transportation links and improving accessibility for local communities.
The Chief Minister emphasized that robust infrastructure is vital for the socio-economic development of Arunachal Pradesh, especially in geographically challenging and strategically important border areas. Improved road networks, he noted, would not only facilitate easier movement of people and goods but also strengthen access to healthcare, education, government services, and economic opportunities.
Khandu stressed that connectivity remains one of the most important drivers of development in the state and is essential for improving the quality of life of people living in remote regions. He also pointed out that better infrastructure contributes significantly to national security by enhancing mobility and access in border areas.

Following the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for the Centre’s continued support towards strengthening border infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh. He acknowledged the role played by the Union Government in advancing strategic connectivity projects and transforming forward areas through sustained investments in infrastructure.
“It was a privilege to meet the Hon’ble Raksha Mantri and discuss important projects concerning the development of Arunachal Pradesh. I am grateful for his continued support in strengthening border infrastructure and improving connectivity in our state,” Khandu said.
The meeting comes amid an ongoing push by both the Centre and the state government to improve infrastructure in Arunachal Pradesh, which shares an international border with China, Bhutan, and Myanmar. Officials believe that enhanced connectivity and modern infrastructure will play a crucial role in promoting development, strengthening border management, and improving the lives of people residing in frontier regions.
The Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s commitment to working closely with the Centre to accelerate the implementation of key infrastructure projects and ensure balanced development across Arunachal Pradesh.
