Gangtok, April 24: Sikkim has stepped up preparations for the forthcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the state government coordinating elaborate arrangements under the guidance of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay. As part of the preparations, the Cultural Department is organising a grand cultural programme to showcase the state's rich heritage and vibrant traditions.

The cultural events are being supervised by Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Jacob Khaling, who is overseeing rehearsals and coordination among participating groups. The programme aims to create a festive atmosphere and extend a warm welcome to the Prime Minister during his visit to the Himalayan state.
Artists from different districts of Sikkim have come together for the preparations, reflecting the state's spirit of unity in diversity. The participants include members of various Self Help Groups (SHGs), the All Sikkim Dance Institute Association, folk artistes, singers, musicians, and cultural troupes representing different communities. Rehearsals are currently underway at designated venues, with performers working to present a vibrant and memorable cultural showcase.

The highlight of the celebrations will be a spectacular dance production titled "1000 Steps of Unity," featuring nearly 2,000 performers on a single stage. The large-scale presentation is designed to celebrate Sikkim's cultural diversity by blending traditional Sikkimese dance forms with performances inspired by various regions of India. Officials said the production symbolises harmony, national integration, and the shared cultural values that unite the country.
According to the Cultural Department, the programme will not only highlight Sikkim's unique traditions but also demonstrate the state's commitment to preserving its cultural heritage while embracing diversity. Officials expressed confidence that the grand performance would leave a lasting impression on visitors and dignitaries attending the event.
As Sikkim prepares to welcome the Prime Minister, the cultural extravaganza is expected to serve as a fitting tribute to the state's rich artistic legacy, hospitality, and enduring spirit of unity.
