Sikkim Government Law College Shines at Bar Council of India National Moot Court Competition 2026

Gangtok, February 2: Sikkim Government Law College delivered an impressive national performance by securing a Top-Eight finish and winning the Second Best Memorial Award at the 38th Bar Council of India National Moot Court Competition 2026, held from January 29 to 31 at Royal Global University.

Organised by the Bar Council of India, the competition is regarded as one of the most prestigious national moot court events, playing a vital role in shaping legal education, advocacy standards, and professional competence among law students across the country.

The competition witnessed rigorous rounds adjudicated by Hon’ble Judges from various High Courts, including the Gauhati High Court, along with senior advocates. Teams were evaluated on legal research, memorial drafting, and oral advocacy. Amid stiff competition from law institutions nationwide, the Sikkim Government Law College team progressed through multiple rounds to finish among the top eight teams.

In recognition of the excellence of its written submissions, the team was awarded the Second Best Memorial Trophy. The judges commended the memorial for its clarity, logical structure, and sound legal reasoning, and also appreciated the team’s disciplined and composed performance during the oral rounds.

The team comprised Mahesh Chhetri, Khushi Rai, and Shrijan Pradhan, and was guided by Dr. Sushma Sharma, Assistant Professor and Convenor of the Moot Court Society. The team received strong institutional support from Dr. Dilip Pandey, Principal of the college, along with encouragement and mentorship from faculty members.

The achievement highlights the steadily rising academic and mooting standards of Sikkim Government Law College, positioning it as an emerging benchmark among government law institutions, particularly in the North-Eastern region. The team was formally felicitated during the valedictory ceremony in the presence of dignitaries, members of the judiciary, and legal professionals.
