Aizawl, February 24, 2026: Maimizial, directed by Raymond Colney, clinched the first prize at the Mizo Short Film Competition 2026, with a cash award of ₹2,50,000. The award ceremony was held today at the Mini Theatre, Lianchhiari Run, Directorate of Information & Public Relations (I&PR), Treasury Square, Aizawl.

The short film competition was organised by the Directorate of I&PR in collaboration with the Mizoram Film Development Committee. A total of 41 short films, each ranging between 10 to 15 minutes in length, were submitted before the February 16 deadline. The results were declared after careful evaluation by the panel of judges.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by IPR & Printing and Stationery Minister Pu B. Lalchhanzova. Director Pi K. Vanlalsangi chaired the function, while Secretary Pi Betsy Zothanpari Sailo presented a brief report on the competition.
In his address, the Minister highlighted the transformative power of cinema, stating that a good film has the ability to influence viewers’ thoughts and guide them towards positive values. He stressed that producing quality films is more important than merely increasing the number of productions.
Pu Lalchhanzova also announced that the Information & Broadcasting Ministry will organise the “Lemchan – Mizo Film Festival” from March 16 to 18 to further promote the growth of the Mizo film industry. He urged filmmakers to make meaningful use of such platforms to expand professional opportunities and elevate the industry to national recognition.

Emphasising discipline and skill development, the Minister encouraged filmmakers to continuously improve their craft, maintain professionalism, and strive for excellence so that Mizo films can one day secure National Awards. He also congratulated all participants and encouraged those who did not win to continue pursuing creative excellence.
