Nagaland Has Potential to Become Development Role Model: MoS Nimuben Bambhaniya

Dimapur, February 23: Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya said Nagaland has immense potential to emerge as a development role model if departments work together with commitment and clear targets.

The Minister made the remarks during a review meeting with various departments under Dimapur district held at the Police Complex, Rhosdoram Hall, Chümoukedima on February 21.

After a two-day visit to multiple locations in the district, Bambhaniya said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, special focus has been placed on the development of the Northeast. She reiterated the mantra of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,” stressing that development is a collective responsibility.

During her visit, the Minister inspected a health centre, an Anganwadi school, Jal Jeevan Mission initiatives, a fair price shop under the Public Distribution System (PDS), and interacted with self-help groups, women beneficiaries and village leaders. She emphasized effective implementation of government schemes at the grassroots level beyond paperwork.

Highlighting tourism potential, Bambhaniya noted that Nagaland’s natural beauty, cultural heritage and the globally renowned Hornbill Festival offer vast opportunities for economic growth. She said tourism, if properly harnessed, can significantly improve livelihoods.

Referring to Khonoma as a model green village, she lauded the community’s environmental consciousness and spirit of honesty, calling it an example of sustainable development.

The Minister also promoted “Local for Local” and “Make in India,” urging support for local products and empowerment of women, farmers and youth. She encouraged officials to adopt target-oriented approaches with monthly and six-month goals for tangible outcomes.

On February 22, Bambhaniya visited the historic Kachari Ruins and Durga Mandir in Dimapur. She appreciated efforts to preserve the Dimasa Kachari heritage and emphasized the importance of safeguarding cultural monuments for future generations before departing for Delhi.

District officials and department heads attended the review meeting and presented updates on the implementation of key schemes, particularly under Consumer Affairs and the PDS.
