Officials from the tourism wing of NITI Aayog and the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) were also present during the discussions. The meeting focused on planning the structure, scope and timing of the conclave, aimed at promoting Mizoram as a sustainable and attractive tourism destination.

During the meeting, Lalnghinglova Hmar said tourist arrivals to Mizoram have increased significantly over the past two years, particularly after rail connectivity reached Sairang in September 2025. He noted that Aizawl can now be reached from Guwahati within a day, and improved air and rail connectivity is expected to further boost tourism.

The minister stressed the need for better preparedness to receive tourists, including accommodation, food services, tourist facilities and curated experiences, while ensuring that Mizoram’s natural beauty is preserved. He said the state’s appeal lies in its pristine landscapes - hills, valleys, rivers and lakes - and development should not compromise these assets. He urged NITI Aayog to extend support and partnership in strengthening tourism infrastructure and policy planning.

Dr. V. K. Paul said Mizoram stands out as a peaceful and attractive state with a high literacy rate, making it well suited for tourism growth. He described the proposed Tourism Conclave as an effective platform to showcase Mizoram’s potential and assured NITI Aayog’s support in formulating a comprehensive tourism policy with active involvement of local communities.

It was proposed that the Tourism Conclave be held in Aizawl or nearby locations during the latter half of the year when weather conditions are favourable. The possibility of aligning the conclave with the International Tourism Mart or existing festivals in Mizoram was also discussed to enhance its scale and impact.

To further advance preparations, it was decided that a detailed coordination meeting would be held in New Delhi later this year, involving senior government officials and key tourism stakeholders based in Delhi, with NITI Aayog taking the lead role. Representatives of Mizoram’s tourism-related enterprises are also expected to be included.

The meeting was attended by Pu Alexander V. Chongthu, Additional Resident Commissioner, Mizoram House, New Delhi, and Pu H. Lalramenga.

Later in the day, Lalnghinglova Hmar, who also holds the Sports portfolio, met Pu Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary (Sports), Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, to discuss various initiatives and future plans for sports development in Mizoram.
