Aizawl, February 2, 2025: Mizoram Minister of State for Sports & Youth Services Lalnghinglova Hmar on Monday felicitated six Mizo futsal players who were part of the Indian team that won the silver medal at the SAFF Futsal Championship 2026.
The felicitation programme was held at the Minister’s office chamber at Mizoram State Sports Department (MINECO). The championship, organised by the South Asian Football Federation, was held in Thailand from January 14 to 26, 2026, marking the inaugural edition of the SAFF Futsal Championship.
India fielded a 14-member squad for the tournament, of which six players hailed from Mizoram. The Indian team recorded three wins and two draws from six matches to finish second overall and secure the silver medal.
Congratulating the players, Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar said the inclusion of six Mizo players in the national team was a matter of pride for the state. He noted that performing at the international level is never easy and said the team’s success clearly reflects the growing standard and potential of Mizo footballers. Encouraging the players, he said they were trailblazers who must continue to inspire and guide future generations.
The Minister also lauded the efforts and dedication of the MFA Futsal Committee, stating that despite limited government assistance, the committee’s commitment has played a key role in the steady growth of futsal in Mizoram. He added that the state now has a strong futsal structure and improving competitive standards.

He further assured that the Mizo players who represented India would be included under the Mizoram Sports Incentive Cash Award scheme.
During the programme, the players shared their tournament experiences, while representatives of the MFA Futsal Committee also addressed the gathering. Family members of the players were present at the event.
The Mizo players who represented India at the SAFF Futsal Championship are Jonathan Lalrawngbawla, Vincent Laltluangzela, H. Lalrinzuala, K. Roluahpuia, Lalsangkima, and Lalsawmpuia, all from Aizawl.
