Mizoram: Body of Missing Man Found After 50 Days in Lunglei

Lunglei, Feb 10, 2026: The body of Ngurthanmawia Sailo (30), who had been missing since December 21, 2025, was recovered on Monday afternoon from the banks of the Tuilut stream under the Lunglei Ramthar area.

Ngurthanmawia, son of Lalliana Sailo of Farmveng, Lunglei, was reportedly last seen on December 21. According to sources, a local resident searching for cattle discovered the body around 3:00 pm and alerted authorities. Members of the Young Mizo Association (YMA) from Ramthar and Farmveng, along with police personnel, rushed to the spot and initiated necessary procedures.

Though the body was found in a highly decomposed state, family members were able to identify Ngurthanmawia through the clothes he was wearing.ALSO READ: Ashtalakshmi Darshan Youth Exchange Programme Launched at Mizoram University

The body was later taken to Lunglei Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. Burial is scheduled to take place later tonight at the Farmveng cemetery.

Ngurthanmawia Sailo was a teacher at Sesawm Primary School in Lunglei district. Following his disappearance, YMA branches across Lunglei had conducted search operations for seven days in keeping with Mizo customs, but without success.

Police have not yet disclosed the cause of death, and further investigation is underway.
