Lunglei, Feb 10, 2026: The body of a 30-year-old man who had been missing for nearly 50 days was recovered on Monday afternoon from the banks of the Tuilut stream in the Ramthar area of Lunglei town, bringing a tragic end to weeks of uncertainty and search efforts.

The deceased has been identified as Ngurthanmawia Sailo, son of Lalliana Sailo of Farmveng, Lunglei. Ngurthanmawia was reported missing on December 21, 2025, and had not been seen since. His disappearance had prompted concern among family members, friends, and the local community, leading to extensive search operations in the days that followed.
According to sources, the body was discovered at around 3:00 pm by a local resident who had gone to the area in search of cattle. Upon noticing the remains, the individual immediately informed the authorities. Members of the Young Mizo Association (YMA) from Ramthar and Farmveng, along with police personnel, rushed to the location and initiated the necessary procedures.
Officials said the body was found in a highly decomposed state due to the length of time it had remained undiscovered. Despite the condition of the remains, family members were able to identify Ngurthanmawia through the clothes he was wearing at the time of his disappearance.

Following recovery, the body was transported to Lunglei Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Police officials have not yet disclosed any findings, stating that investigations are still underway.
Ngurthanmawia Sailo was serving as a teacher at Sesawm Primary School in Lunglei district. His disappearance had deeply affected the local community, and YMA branches across Lunglei had conducted intensive search operations for seven consecutive days in accordance with Mizo customs and community practices. However, those efforts had failed to locate him at the time.
Family members, friends, and community leaders expressed sorrow over the tragic outcome. The funeral and burial are scheduled to take place later tonight at the Farmveng cemetery. Authorities said further details would be released once the investigation and post-mortem examination are completed.
