Manipur: Six Acres of Poppy Plantation Destroyed in Senapati and Kangpokpi; One Arrested

Imphal, February 13: Manipur Police on Friday said security forces, along with an Executive Magistrate, destroyed approximately six acres of illegal poppy cultivation at Ngatan Hill range under Senapati Police Station and adjoining areas of Kangpokpi district.

According to the police, eight makeshift huts found at the plantation sites were burnt and dismantled during the operation. Authorities also destroyed materials used for cultivation, including three bags of fertilizers, 15 bags of salt, four bundles of irrigation pipes and four spray pumps.

Police confirmed the arrest of one individual identified as Gun Bahadur Rai (59), a resident of Thulochour/Tapon Village, Irang Part II, T Waichong, who was found at the poppy field during the operation.

The drive is part of ongoing efforts by security forces to curb illegal poppy cultivation and drug-related activities in the state.
