Manipur Declares Three-Day State Mourning for MLA Vungzagin Valte

Imphal, February 21: The Government of Manipur has declared a three-day State Mourning as a mark of respect to Late Vungzagin Valte, MLA of 56–Thanlon Assembly Constituency, who passed away on February 20, 2026.

According to an official order issued by the General Administration Department (Records & Library Section) on February 21, 2026, the State Mourning will be observed from February 22 to 24, 2026. During this period, the National Flag will be flown at Half Mast throughout the state, and there will be no official entertainment.

The order was issued in the name of the Governor of Manipur and signed by Thokchom Bedajit, Deputy Secretary, General Administration Department.

Vungzagin Valte, a senior political leader from the hill districts, represented the Thanlon Assembly Constituency in Churachandpur district. He was known for his active role in raising issues concerning the hill areas and tribal communities in the Manipur Legislative Assembly. His demise has been widely mourned across party lines, with leaders and community organisations expressing deep condolences.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and several legislators have paid tributes, remembering Valte’s contributions to public service and his commitment to his constituency. Political leaders and civil society organisations have described his passing as a significant loss to the state.
