Jiribam, February 26: In a significant development, the Scheduled Tribes (ST) representatives of thirteen tribal village chiefs in Jiribam District have unanimously declared their desire to be amalgamated with Pherzawl District, Manipur, with immediate effect.

In a formal declaration, the undersigned chiefs stated that both they and their people consent to come under the full administrative jurisdiction of Pherzawl District. They asserted that since time immemorial, their areas have been “part and parcel” of the existing Pherzawl District and expressed unwillingness to continue under the administration of Jiribam District.
The declaration further mentioned that a sketch map highlighting the tribal areas proposed to be included within Pherzawl District has been attached to support their claim.
The signatories to the declaration include Paul Rozarlien Hmar, Lalsanhim Hmar, Gina Hmar, L. Thanmawi Pajamte Hmar, Blessing Hmar, Joel Hmar, Thangliensang Hmar, Lalchunghnung Hmar, Khamzamang Duhlian, Lamgin Haokip, Demkholun Haokip, and Satkhawlam Hmar.
The document has been endorsed and countersigned by the Indigenous Tribal Advocacy Committee (ITAC), with Chairman Upa Hranglienkhum Keivom and Secretary Hrilhmingthang Buhril affirming the resolution.
The chiefs have urged the Government of Manipur to take necessary action at the earliest to implement their request.
